Practical

Arranging, positioning & care

Practical tips to help you get the most out of your choice.

Arranging tips

  • Choose tools with a length that suits your build; it saves a lot of back pain.
  • Hang tools up after use rather than laying them down; they stay sharp and last longer.

Position & placement

  • Store wooden handles dry and under cover; moisture is the main cause of rot and cracks.
  • Empty watering cans in winter and store them upside down, so they don’t get frost damage.

Care tips

  • Rub an ash handle with linseed oil now and then; it keeps the wood supple and prevents splinters.
  • Clean secateurs after use and keep the blade sharp; blunt secateurs bruise rather than cut.
