Practical

Arranging, positioning & care

Practical tips to help you get the most out of your choice.

Arranging tips

  • Group plants with the same light needs together: it makes care easier and looks stylish.
  • Vary the height with a plant table or plant stand for a fuller result.
  • Large foliage plants draw the eye, so literally give them space, not too close to the sofa or wall.

Position & placement

  • Most houseplants like a bright spot without strong direct sun.
  • Moisture-loving plants (such as ferns) do well in a bathroom with daylight.
  • Watch out for draughts and radiators: dry, fluctuating temperatures are bad for many varieties.

Care tips

  • Do the finger test: if the soil still feels moist, wait a little longer before watering.
  • Never leave excess water in the saucer or outer pot; root rot lies in wait.
  • Wipe dusty leaves with a damp cloth; the plant can then breathe and absorb light better.
