How to choose the perfect Christmas tree

The Christmas tree is the warm heart of our living rooms in December. To avoid looking at a bare tree before New Year’s Eve, here are a few practical tips to keep your tree lovely, green and full throughout the season.
1. Choose the type that suits you
The Nordmann fir is extremely popular because of its sturdy branches and minimal needle drop. Looking for that classic pine scent? Then the Norway spruce is a beautiful alternative. Do bear in mind that the Norway spruce drops its needles more quickly and so needs extra water.
2. Measure the space in advance
Don’t forget to measure the ceiling height and available width at home (including the stand). In our Christmas tree area, a tree often looks smaller than it does once it’s standing in your living room.
3. How to recognise a fresh tree
A fresh tree springs back smoothly when you gently squeeze the branches and doesn’t drop needles when you lightly tap the trunk. Do the needles snap when you bend them? Then the tree has been without water for too long.
4. Have the trunk freshly cut
Feel free to ask us to saw a few centimetres off the base of the trunk. This opens up the trunk’s vessels so the tree can drink water properly again as soon as it’s home.
5. Keep an eye on the water level
A real Christmas tree drinks a remarkable amount of water, especially in the first few days. Do you use a stand with a water reservoir? Check it daily and top up where needed.
Feel free to come and see our range indoors and out. We’ll gladly help you choose the ideal size and type for your home!
